The ticket you received is a notice to appear in court for arraignment. If you do not appear in court, a warrant for your arrest may be issued, your driver's license may be suspended, and you may be assessed missed court fees and license reinstatement fees. I MISSED COURT - WHAT HAPPENS?
Once you have missed court on a traffic ticket, the court may issue a bench warrant for your arrest. If you are stopped for any traffic violation, or if your identification is checked by law enforcement, you will be immediately arrested and taken to jail. At that point, you may or may not have the ability to post a bond depending on the terms of the bench warrant that was issued. If a no bond bench warrant was issued, you will have to wait for the next court available court date which could be hours, days, or even weeks.
If you have missed court, the court may report your failure to appear (FTA) in court to the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS). Once the court has reported the FTA to the DDS, the DDS should mail you notice of a pending suspension via certified mail, giving you only 28-days to clear the FTA with the court and show proof of such clearance to the DDS. If a release or clearance is not received from the court or the driver within 28-days, the suspension will go into effect.
